Month-end accounting close: a compact business checklist
A fast close depends on a fixed sequence, explicit exceptions, and financial plausibility checks.

Start with completeness
Complete all intake channels before evaluating numbers. Unprocessed records and unexplained bank differences must have an explicit status.
Use a fixed sequence
Reconcile bank, cash, and open items; review tax cases and unusual balances; account for fixed assets; then run balance checks and reports.
Check plausibility, not only status
A technically balanced posting can still be financially wrong. Compare material balances and movements with prior periods, plans, and known business activity.
Make the close reproducible
Store the period, review state, open questions, and export state. If corrections follow, preserve what changed and why.
